This Cake Artist’s Langdon Hall Bridal Shower Is As Sweet As You’d Imagine

You may think you’re dreaming as you make your way through the story of this beautiful Langdon Hall bridal shower, but believe us when we say that this day was a true life fairy tale. The idea that this event could have been a dream is fitting, as the bride-to-be is a self-described dreamer. Nadia Colella of Nadia & Co. can often be found in a world of fantasies. Fantasies that her creative thinking brings to life in exquisitely wondrous cakes and artisan sweets. For this special day, Nadia turned her dreaming and inspiration to English gardens.

The day was first inspired by the much-coveted Royal Albert’s Old Country Rose china. Nadia’s late grandmother had left her collection of china to her after years of cherishing it together. In this way, Nadia was able to honour her grandmother and preserve her memory on the day of her bridal shower. It was with this beautiful aesthetic cue and nod to love and legacy that this garden fantasy was born.

The tone was set with custom-designed invitations by the bride-to-be and her sister - a talented graphic designer. Each invite was adorned with romantic script and dreamy sweet confections that looked as if they had come from the pages of Lewis Carroll. Visual nods to the Victorian era and a hint that “the secret ingredient is always love” let guests know they were in for a day of whimsy and romance.

On a picturesque day in August, a group of inspiring women came together to celebrate Nadia at her Langdon Hall bridal shower. Langdon Hall played perfectly into her lush fantasy. A beautiful, old country home with English gardens was the ideal setting to host a garden affair to remember. The magic began at one o’clock on a summer’s afternoon. Floating as if on a cloud in a Zimmermann linen shirt-style dress with an English rose appliqué, Nadia perfectly fit the theme of the day. In true English fashion, she wore a Blair Nadeau designed birdcage-style veil with a whimsical bow to top it all off.

The gardens were at their very best for the Langdon Hall bridal shower, as Nadia greeted her guests out on the patio before asking to be joined in the Orchard Room. Inside, Nadia’s friends and family finally saw the garden fantasy before their very eyes - an assortment of bright, and colourful blooms arranged alongside sweet creations that only Nadia could have dreamt up. Though it was almost too beautiful to eat, the guests agreed to the famous advice of Marie Antoinette: let them eat cake!

As a true artist in the cake and pastry arts, Nadia was inclined to surprise and delight her guests with a swoon-worthy display of desserts inspired by the Victorian era. The desserts were an array of Nadia’s most beloved flavours: lavender cake with Earl Grey cream and peach preserves, scones adorned with rose buds, truffle bon bons, Queen Victoria sponge cake, and pastries lightly dusted with pistachio, flower petals, and gold leaf. Each artisan sweet and custom cake sat beautifully atop classically fanciful china by Plate Occasions

Our team of Toronto wedding photographers were truly in awe of the affair. The scene was stunning with antique pieces of furniture from La Maison Rose Cafe and Cre8tive Studio to further bring the vision to life. Dusk pink velvet runners from Simply Beautiful Decor and florals from Blush and Bloom spilled forth, creating a unique display of lush local varieties. The room was filled with light, laughter, and love, making it not only easy, but a true joy to capture our dear friend Nadia’s special celebration. May this delightful afternoon of romance, whimsy, and indulgences hint at what’s to come. Check back soon to see the gorgeous wedding that followed.
