A look inside L.A. Kings’ Drew Doughty and wife Nicole Arruda’s Muskoka Wedding

A stunning soirée, L.A. King’s Drew Doughty and Nicole Arruda’s Muskoka Wedding was all about fun. High school sweethearts, the two have known each other since the ninth grade. According to Nicole, not a whole lot has changed since then - that is if you don’t count a couple of Gold Medals, Stanley Cups, and a true love that has endured. But the truth is, once a fun-loving couple, always a fun-loving couple. A handful of years here and there won’t change that.

Nicole Arruda and Drew Doughty worked alongside their incredible planner, Ashley Piggot, to create the beautiful, yet intimate Muskoka wedding of their dreams. A celebration that would find the balance between elegant and down-to-earth - that would capture the spirit of their relationship. The Sherwood Inn on Lake Joseph fit the bill perfectly. The venue was unique in that it provided the charm and style of classic Muskoka, but was grounded in its natural qualities. Beautiful lakeside views and lush woods set the scene for what would be an unforgettable occasion.

There’s just something about the air up there that makes it easy to create special memories. Perhaps it’s just part of the area’s DNA. Year after year of epic summers can have that effect, and Nicole and Drew were sure to tap into this. The couple dreamt of a cottage wedding, something that felt like a huge party with all their closest friends and family. To achieve this vibe, the list was kept at 100 guests, allowing them to keep the festivities intimate. To help keep everyone connected, on the same level, and continuously part of the party, all guests were lucky enough to stay on the venue’s property alongside the couple.

While the vibe was meant to be breezy and familiar, the aesthetic was sheer bliss. A subtle palette of white, blush, and gold paired beautifully with the lush greens of the environment around them. While roses and wisteria aren’t necessarily native to Muskoka, they fit into the backdrop seamlessly. Installations of beautiful blooms of pink and white were paired with canopies of hanging florals by Rachel A. Clingen that only enhanced the beauty of the lakeside retreat at this Muskoka wedding. Every detail was full of thought and beauty. Tasteful touches could be found everywhere you looked, while managing to not overwhelm the eye - working in perfect, chic harmony.

A mix of candle and sun light provided the perfect glow to the beautiful day, helping our team of Toronto wedding photographers to capture the couple in a soft, and natural way. As defenceman for the L.A. Kings, Drew Doughty is used to suiting up (in hockey gear that is), but the bar was definitely raised for his NHL wedding. Nicole - an avid fashionista - looked absolutely stunning in her impeccable Pronovias wedding gown. The couple’s flawless style and ease allowed us to create fashion forward and editorial photos of their beautiful day on Lake Joseph. Given the duo's desire to keep the day light and fun, it was easy to capture a collection of candid moments between the happy couple.
